Jody Halsted Awarded First Place for Traveling in Ireland Podcast
The Midwest Travel Journalists Association (MTJA) announced winners in the 2018 Mark Twain Travel Journalism Contest (for work published in 2017) during their fall meeting in DeKalb County, Georgia this past weekend.
Jody Halsted was awarded 1st Place in the Digital category for an episode of her Traveling in Ireland podcast.
Neil Jackman on Ireland’s Ancient East
Judge’s comments: “The podcaster skillfully uses audio to bring a master storyteller’s tales to life.”
The Digital category description- “Alternate Media” Travel Journalism: This broad category is meant to recognize travel related stories and material published or reposted in various digital venues, news outlets, blogs, or sites operated by non-members. This may include podcast, cablecast, or broadcast programs; internet news or informational sites; ezines; specialty travel publications, phone apps, etc. Broadcast entries may have been hosted by other talent, but an MTJAmember provides significant content.
Because this is a new, emerging, changing and broad category, the judge will be asked to review all entries and make awards to those that best convey a sense of place, spark a desire to visit a featured destination, motivate a reader or viewer to want to experience an event, activity, restaurant or region – or otherwise effectively communicate the joy of travel.
The Midwest Travel Journalists Association Inc. is a not-for-profit organization for professional travel journalists and destination marketing representatives. Our membership includes award-winning travel writers, editors, columnists, photojournalists, reporters, broadcasters, book authors, bloggers, online media producers and official staff of major travel destinations, regions, states and cities.
MTJA Active and Associate members are based in 13 Midwestern states, but our assignments take us across the United States and around the world. We work in both traditional print and electronic media for a wide audience of readers, viewers and listeners throughout our region, our country and beyond.
